Description: IFN-γ is an acid-labile interferon produced by CD4 and CD8 T lymphocytes as well as activated NK cells. IFN-γ receptors are present in most immune cells, which respond to IFN-γ signaling by increasing the surface expression of class I MHC proteins. This promotes the presentation of antigen to T-helper (CD4+) cells. IFN-γ signaling in antigen-presenting cells and antigen-recognizing B and T lymphocytes regulate the antigen-specific phases of the immune response. Additionally, IFN-γ stimulates a number of lymphoid cell functions including the anti-microbial and anti-tumor responses of macrophages, NK cells, and neutrophils. Human IFN-γ species-specific and is biologically active only in human and primate cells. Description: Lipocalin-2 (LCN2) is a member of the lipocalin superfamily, which share a highly conserved fold containing an eight-stranded antiparallel beta barrel (Flower), and transport small hydrophobic molecules. Playing a role in innate immunity, Lipocalin-2 acts as a potent bacteriostatic reagent by sequestering iron-containing siderophores (Flo <i>et al.</i>). It is mainly expressed in activated neutrophils, but is also secreted by other immune cells in response to infection. Lipocalin-2 has been implicated in multiple cellular processes, such as differentiation (Yang <i>et al.</i>), migration (Du <i>et al.</i>), and apoptosis (Devireddy <i>et al.</i>). <i>In vitro</i> studies suggest that lipocalin-2 is a potential therapeutic target for certain cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC; Zhang <i>et al.</i>) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (Bauvois <i>et al.</i>). Description: This mAb reacts with a 58 kDa protein identified as vimentin. It shows no cross-reaction with other closely related intermediate filament proteins (IFPs) such as desmin, keratin, neurofilament, and glial fibrillary acid protein. Anti-vimentin alone is of limited value as a diagnostic tool; however, when used in panels with other antibodies, it is useful for the sub-classification of a given tumor. Expression of vimentin, when used in conjunction with anti-keratin, is helpful when distinguishing melanomas from undifferentiated carcinomas and large cell lymphomas. All melanomas and Schwannomas react strongly with anti-vimentin. It labels a variety of mesenchymal cells, including melanocytes, lymphocytes, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts. Non-reactivity of anti-vimentin is often considered more useful than its positive reactivity, since there are a few tumors that do not contain vimentin, e.g. hepatoma and seminoma. Anti-vimentin is also useful as a tissue process control reagent.

Glutathione is the major low molecular weight thiol compound of the living plant or animal cell. It is a tripeptide with a gamma peptide linkage between the amine group of cysteine (which is attached by normal peptide linkage to a glycine) and the carboxyl group of the glutamate side-chain. It is an antioxidant, preventing damage to important cellular components caused by reactive oxygen species such as free radicals and peroxides. The sulfhydryl (thiol) group (SH) of cysteine serves as a proton donor and is responsible for the biological activity of glutathione.
Glutathione suppresses human immunodeficiency virus expression in chronically infected monocytic cells. It is a useful tripeptide involved in many aspects of metabolism, including transport of g-glutanyl amino acids and reductive cleavage of disulfide bonds.
Endogenous antioxidant that plays a major role in reducing reactive oxygen species formed during cellular metabolism and the respiratory burst. Glutathione-S-transferase catalyzes the formation of glutathione thioethers with xenobiotics, leukotrienes, and other molecules that have an electrophilic center. Glutathione also forms disulfide bonds with cysteine residues in proteins. Via these mechanisms, it can have the paradoxical effect of reducing the efficacy of anti-cancer agents.
