This experiment helps teach students about restriction enzyme digests in the context of forensic science. Students cut DNA with restriction enzymes and then compare the banding pattern of the crime scene DNA versus that of two suspects using agarose gel electrophoresis.

  • For 6 lab groups
  • Complete in 90 minutes

Also required: Electrophoresis tank and power supply, 5 to 50 µl adjustable or 5, 10, 15 and 40 µl fixed volume micropipettes, water bath, balance, and white light box.

Delivery information: Kit includes instructions, "crime scene" Ready-to-Load™ DNA samples, standard DNA fragments, Dryzymes™ (Eco RI and Hind III), various solutions and buffers, plasmid DNA, enzyme grade water, agarose powder, and stains.
